In this first edition, artist Randall Kopping, who suggested the idea of an art meets science section for the site, shows us his cosmic view of the birth of a galaxy. This art-meets-science image is based upon a theory of how galaxies may have formed, starting as huge clouds of gas till they became so dense in the center that a black hole forms and begins stirring the cloud, swirling it and initiating the birth of a galaxy.
